I have been friends with the gorgeous and super inspiring Saya for many years, and I'd love to share her story.
When was Saya Skincare born? I started making Skincare when I was 17 – I purely started creating these formulas for my own use and was then encouraged to make a business from it. I have had my factory now for over 10 years.
Describe your creative process when developing new products?
Firstly it starts from what I want and usually this comes from my love and interest for new discoveries in unique botanicals, I often then get inspired to create a product using these.
As I’m getting older my interest has definitely influenced the development of the range. I’m certainly pro anti ageing ingredients and creating formulations from as many and effective botanical ingredients I can find. The challenge then is to figure out how we jam pack it into a little bottle.
In saying this I don’t forget the struggles with skin concerns when I was a teenager, so I am very much focused on this too.
My inspiration I guess comes from problems that I then want to find a solution to.
A lot of market research goes into developing new products.
I create my formulations with a lot of sampling, trial & error & feedback from staff & family. I have fabulous chemists who are extremely patient with the whole process.
The aim is for my products to be as affective and unique to my customers so they can’t help but want to try it.
What or who inspires you? My parents for sure and I think my brothers and sister would agree. They’re just amazing and have taught me so so much and have always supported and been there. They’re super inspirational to me growing up I’ve watched them build a successful business while still having a good balance with life and family.
Why was it important for you and your brand to go all Certified Organic?
I decided to certify most of the products in the range as it was already so organic and clean that I thought it would be good proof.
There are so many benefits that come with Organic products, and it actually stands for Purity, Quality & Trust.
Best part of living in Noosa, QLD – The Surf, Beaches & amazing national park walks!
Your favourite place to travel, and why? I can’t decide I have 3 ....Mexico – Tacos & Tequila all day long – what’s not to love. Fiji for the amazing water and my most favourite surf break. Lake Tahoe for the snow something completely different to surfing and has become a family annual holiday.
